Dad

A tower of strength
Muscle and bone
Terror and love
Pride and insecurities
Never satisfied and secure
Childhood stories
A lost watch
A bicycle taken away
Resentments
Never forgiven
Paternal love
Lost at fourteen
Too early
Sweatshops and pushcarts
Feeling the brute

A life of work
A life of poetry
A life of talking with people far away
Using ethereal vibrations
Loving father
Sometimes out of control

At the end
Son becomes caretaker
Father becomes child
No longer the giant
No longer immortal
No longer omniscient
No longer the champion
Just an old man with stories
and dreams
and still some hopes
and love to share

I miss you dad, happy father’s day.
Rachel
