The Hammer

Slowly it started its fall
Degree by degree it moved through an arc
Described by Sir Isaac, refined by some others
Soon to hit the anvil
Releasing the power inside

It was swinging slowly now
This great weight, tons of steel
Toward the single point waiting the moment
Patiently
What would happen?

At the end it moved with a rush
And crashed into that anvil
With a deafening sound
It took all words away
Though some saw it coming

From the anvil came a wave
And all along things were overturned
By that hammer set in motion
By the smallest feather’s touch
No knowing the end
As we knew not the beginning
